Blockchain Babies: Using Blockchain to Control a Novel Neonatal Device

Millions of babies delivered by C-section around the world could get a better start in life with a new technology that simulates natural birth. NnBU (acronym for Neonatal Birth Unit) Holdings based in Cyprus suggests their device will alleviate some of the complications discovered in the 40 million babies delivered by C-section annually.
Recreating the conditions of a natural birth involves massaging newborns’ torsos and lighting conditions. This aims to prevent ailments associated with C-sections that include later-in-life immunological disorders like asthma, allergy, type 1-diabetes, obesity and celiac disease. The assertion is that the stresses of natural birth stimulate and prepare the immune system for life. Babies are prepared for the replacement of oxygenation via the placenta with function of their own pulmonary circulation, independent temperature regulation, metabolic regulation from developing organs, bacterial colonization and exposure to microorganisms. C-sections are suspected of only partially completing the important adaptation processes required for the babies’ transitions to independence. In addition to the adaptation processes, leaving the womb is predicted to affect intestinal stimulation; interruption can cause diseases linked to diarrhea and obesity as the baby grows.
The catch is that operation of the new device would be by experts only - a guarantee made possible by blockchain technology. The blockchain will provide the device with an extra layer of security and data efficiency. The device will be able to record and ensure that only qualified or trained medical staffers and are able to operate the device. Since the patients are babies, unable to record their own medical experiences, the new devices solves the issue of communicating medical records by recording and storing treatment data. The data is secured by the nature of the blockchain and will also be accessible to trusted family members and local authorities.

CEO Frédéric Vo Van shares his enthusiasm and experience with C-section related disorders, saying "I myself was born through caesarean section. In my thirties I realised I was developing symptoms which studies have shown are connected to conditions typically experienced by a significant proportion of people born by C-section. This is a superb initiative that allows people to get involved with a far-reaching, long-sighted, technological innovation that is set to improve health outcomes for many children for several decades to come."
NnBU Holdings has recently announced an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) to fund the development and marketing of a medical device aimed at improving the conditions for neonatal C-section births. The token is said to have passive income which entitles the holders to a share of revenues. If the token reaches the target of 15 million Euros holders can expect to receive 12.5% of NnBu sales. The tokens will be accompanied by a legal contract that the company says can be upheld by a court of law . Future versions of the device will incorporate functions that rely on blockchain technologies which will also serve as a platform for an equivalent smart contract.
